Lauren taking on the Big Apple for charity
Lauren, after winning the Graduate Champion award earlier this year.
Lauren Bennett, our Graphic Designer is taking on the Big Apple in November after signing up for the TCS New York City Marathon.
The marathon takes place on Sunday 6 November and is a 26.2 mile route through all five of New York's boroughs.
It starts in Staten Island at the Western end of the Verrazano-Narrows Bridge and passes through Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx before finish in Manhattan's iconic Central Park, outside the famous Tavern on the Green.
It is the world’s biggest and most popular marathon, with nearly 50,000 finishers in 2015.
Lauren is raising money for two charities.
The first charity is NYRR Team for Kids, which provides free or low-cost health and fitness programmes to children who would otherwise have little or no access to regular physical activity. These programmes serve more than 215,000 children each year in more than 1,000 schools and community centres in New York City and across the nation.
The second charity is more closer to home, and is Cancer Research UK, which funds scientists, doctors and nurses to discover new ways to prevent, diagnose and treat cancer. Over the past century their researchers have made consistent progress in the fight against cancer, and survival rates have doubled over the past 40 years.
